The Napa Valley Chorale’s spring concert, “Choral Treasures,” is Sunday at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. Performances are at 3:30 and 7 p.m.

With this concert, the Napa Valley Chorale, led by Jan Lanterman and Mark Teeters, completes its 45th year in the Napa Valley. Singers in this intergenerational chorus range from high schoolers to senior citizens.

Past programs of the Napa Valley Chorale read like a history of choral music appreciation and include Handel’s “Messiah,” the Mozart “Requiem,” the Faure “Requiem,” Puccini’s “Messa di Gloria,” the Brahms “Liebeslieder Waltzes,” the Vivaldi “Gloria,” and Bach cantatas.

For its spring performance, Lanterman said, “the Chorale is featuring some of the most beloved choral music ever written; this concert promises to lead the audience in experiencing a wide range of emotions from love, joy, and sheer beauty through stirring passion and patriotism to deep sorrow and anger.”

Works on the program include “Ave Maria” by Victoria, “Ave Verum Corpus” by Mozart, “Cantique de Jean Racine” by Faure and Kyrie Eleison from the Imperial Mass by Haydn.

Folk song and hymn/spiritual arrangements include “At the River,” “Black is the Color of my True Love’s Hair,” “Deep River,” “Hark, I Hear the Harps Eternal,” “No Time,” “Vamuvamba” and “Shenandoah.”

Contemporary works include “Amor de mi Alma,” “Lamentations of Jeremiah,” “A Child Said,” “Dirait-on,” “Five Hebrew Love Songs,” “Gospel America,” “I Dream a World,” “Prayer of the Children,” “A Red, Red Rose,” “Sanctus” and “That Lucky Old Sun.”

Although most of the music in this concert is conducted by Lanterman and Teeters, they will be assisted by Kevin Reid of Napa and Diane Strohmeyer of Petaluma. Ellen Patterson is the piano accompanist for the chorus, assisted by Rachelle Davis, violinist, of Angwin; Suzanne Eraldi, oboeist, of Santa Rosa; and Wally Hunt, percussionist, of Napa.

St. Mary’s Church is at 1917 Third St. in Napa. Tickets at $25 along with more information may be obtained by calling 261-6165 or online at www.napavalleychorale.org.
